Your Day-to-Day Impact:
- Crafting Stellar Docs: Write, revise, and maintain comprehensive documentation for our open-source software, APIs, and developer tools. Target audiences span newbie programmers to advanced engineers.
- Collaborating Closely: Work closely with our development teams to understand system architecture and code functionality.
- Elevating User Experiences: Create tutorials, troubleshooting guides, and FAQs to assist our user community and empower them to fully utilize our software. Test drive various UI's to evaluate the best options, providing input regarding improving the usability for the user community.
- Championing Best Practices: Enforce consistency in documentation style, format, and voice across all projects. Strive for adherence to standards as outlined by Open Source licensing entities and software foundations, as it will benefit our users.
- Navigating the Tech Scene: Attend industry meetups and contribute to relevant online forums to expand your technical knowledge and network. Local presence is welcomed to encourage relationships with the open source community here in Oakland and across the bay.
Academic Preparation & Professional Growth
- An academic background in computer science, engineering, or a closely related field. Alternatively, an equivalent portfolio of hands-on expertise.
- Deep comprehension of software development methodologies and agile practices.
- Exceptional grasp of technical writing concepts and practices.
- Superb communication, interpersonal, and collaboration proficiencies.
- Experience with documentation tools (e.g., Sphinx, Doxygen, Markdown) and version control systems (Git).
- Bonus points if you're engaged with the open-source movement or have already contributed to documentation projects. Additional bonus points, should you possess certifications or experience related to accessibility guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508 compliance.
- Practical knowledge with Linux environments, command-line interfaces, and cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP).
