Job description

Our Raleigh-based software firm seeks a dedicated Technical Writer to bridge the gap between our complex technology and our diverse user base. We’re not looking for someone who can just write – we need a communicator who understands technology deeply and can explain it clearly and concisely. This is more than a documentation role; it’s an opportunity to shape the user experience and contribute directly to customer satisfaction.

Primary Role Objectives

  • Craft and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including user manuals, API references, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge base articles. This involves understanding intricate software functionalities and converting them into easily digestible content.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, product managers, and support staff to gather information and ensure the accuracy of technical materials. This collaboration ensures our documentation accurately reflects the latest features and changes.
  • Develop training materials and tutorials for both internal teams and external users, empowering them to maximize the value of our software solutions. These training modules must be engaging and effective.
  • Continuously improve our documentation processes, style guidelines, and content strategy. We encourage innovation in how we approach technical communication.
  • Analyze user feedback and support requests to identify areas where documentation can be enhanced, reducing customer friction and improving overall product usability. Proactive documentation improves our customer experience.
  • Manage documentation version control and maintain a centralized repository of technical resources. Organization is key to accessibility.

Core Competencies

  • A background in technical writing, ideally with experience in the software industry. Understanding software development lifecycles is a plus.
  • A proven ability to understand complex technical concepts and translate them into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation. Clarity is the most critical skill.
  • Proficiency in documentation tools such as MadCap Flare, DITA, or similar platforms. We use industry-standard tools.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Grammar and attention to detail are crucial.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills. You'll work with various teams.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines. Understanding agile processes enhances your collaboration.

Educational Journey & Relevant Background

  • A bachelor’s degree in technical writing, computer science, or a related field. Formal education in technical communication is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of hands-on expertise as a technical writer. Direct, relevant experience is essential.
  • A portfolio of technical writing samples that demonstrates your ability to create clear and effective documentation. We need to see your writing in action.

Employee Benefits Package

We offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your professional and personal well-being:

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
  • Professional development opportunities.
  • A collaborative and innovative work environment.
