Our engineering division in Toledo is on the hunt for a Technical Communicator. If you excel at transforming intricate information into easily digestible guides, process documentation, and specifications, this could be your next career step. We’re a leading manufacturer in the automotive sector, and the ongoing growth of our business means creating and maintaining clear, up-to-date documentation has become absolutely critical. The documentation you create will be leveraged by technicians on the assembly line, engineering teams iterating on product designs, and service teams troubleshooting issues in the field.
What You'll Be Doing
- Craft and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for our automotive products, including detailed assembly instructions, troubleshooting guides, and maintenance procedures. Think of it as writing the ultimate automotive "how-to" manual.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and service teams to gather information, clarify technical concepts, and ensure accuracy. Become a key bridge of knowledge across different internal groups.
- Create visual aids such as diagrams, illustrations, and flowcharts to enhance understanding. A picture is worth a thousand words, especially in engineering.
- Ensure all documentation adheres to industry standards and regulatory requirements. Documentation shouldn’t just inform, but also protect.
- Manage the documentation lifecycle, from initial creation to regular updates and revisions. Treat every piece of documentation like a living project, not just a static file.
- Develop and maintain a centralized documentation repository for easy access and version control. Think of it as your documentation library.
- Contribute to the improvement of our internal documentation processes and standards.
The Skill Set
- An academic background in Technical Writing, Communications, Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated career path in technical writing or a closely related technical role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Adeptness at deciphering engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Practical mastery of documentation tools such as Adobe Technical Communication Suite, MadCap Flare, or similar platforms. Consider experience using Git a plus.
- Proficiency in creating visual aids (diagrams, illustrations, flowcharts) using software like Adobe Illustrator or Visio.
- Keen eye for detail and a commitment to producing error-free documentation.
- Superb communication skills, both written and verbal, and the capability to clearly convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
